North Georgia Weddings

The pristine natural beauty of the North Georgia Mountains forms a perfect setting for weddings and honeymoons. North Georgia’s climate during the spring and summer is warm and mild when mountain forests are bursting forth with colorful wildflowers, laurel, rhododendrons and flowering dogwoods. Trees exhibiting every color of the rainbow during the fall create a gorgeous background for outdoor wedding ceremonies, and crackling fires in large stone fireplaces keep North Georgia’s newlyweds warm at night during the winter. Romantic wedding night suites with spectacular views of mountains and valleys are available throughout North Georgia in mountain lodges, rustic cabins, and in luxury cabins with hot tubs.

Amicalola Falls is a very popular location for weddings in North Georgia because outdoor weddings are permitted in Amicalola Falls State Park, which is located about halfway between Ellijay and Dahlonega on Route 52 in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Picturesque weddings are most often held at the Top of the Falls and at the Reflection Pool near the base of Amicalola Falls. Because horseback riding is such a popular sport in North Georgia, the Seventy-four Ranch in Jasper offers horseback riding weddings with the guests mounted on horses while the bride and groom ride gloriously out of a forest into a Western cowboy style wedding site. Guests can bring their own horses or rent horses and enjoy trail rides, cookouts and campfires, boating and fishing.

Weddings at North Georgia resorts

One of North Georgia’s most elegant vacation resorts is the Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa in Young Harris where outdoor weddings accommodating as many as 250 guests are celebrated on the Waterfall Lawn and indoor weddings can be held in the Grand Ballroom with a 450-person cocktail reception and a formal seated dinner for 300 guests. In Clayton, the Kingwood Resort has a picturesque Bridal Mountain Garden for weddings, a European spa and an 18-hole golf course for guests to enjoy, and banquet facilities that can accommodate up to 300 guests for a cocktail reception or 175 guests at a catered meal.

In Dahlonega, the Forrest Hills Resort offers secluded luxury cottages for honeymoon couples that include all-season fireplaces and private hot tubs. Guests also enjoy horseback riding, carriage rides, hiking, whitewater rafting, and dining by candlelight in the Forrest Hills Restaurant with its romantic Secret Garden. An increasingly popular type of theme wedding is provided by wine vineyards in North Georgia such as the Three Sisters Vineyards and Wolf Mountain Vineyards near Dahlonega. These vineyards can accommodate as many as 200 guests for wine tasting and are able to cater wedding receptions with gourmet foods created especially for the bride and groom’s family and friends.
